Past LMTA Teacher Events 2009–10 Studio Policy Tune Up No matter how many times you write your studio policy, it always seems there is situation that arises that doesn’t quite fit within the rules… Summer is great time to re-evaluate that studio policy, or write one for the first time. Each teacher will bring a copy of his/her studio policy (or a rough draft) and benefit from seeing those of other teachers. Every studio is unique and there is never just one “right policy”, but seeing how others handle the common issues of teaching – scheduling, make up lessons, payment, termination of lessons, etc. – can be truly enlightening. Come get ready for the fall rush and greet your students with a brand new professional studio policy! Registration deadline August 1st, 2009 Tricks of the Trade Every teacher has his or her “bag of tricks” – the ways we introduce students to new concepts in music study or improve the student’s understanding of an old concept. This session will focus on teaching techniques for the essentials – rhythm, note reading, technique, introduction of new repertoire, etc. Time will also be included for sharing and playing of examples including teachers’ favorite repertoire for introducing new musical ideas. Come ready to share your best tricks and learn from those of your colleagues. Registration deadline January 1st, 2010 Defeating the Slump PMTA Annual Teacher Conference and Retreat Mark your calendars for this brand new conference format that combines education with vacation! Conference topics will center on: “Reaping Your Rewards”, “Investing in Your Studio”, “Investing in Students” and “Investing in Yourself”. A guest artist is planned as well. Bring your family for some well-earned R&R. What a great way to end the teaching year!

The collegiate music student embarking on a teaching career is most likely a very intuitive music learner and being faced with a 6-yr.old (or 60 year-old!) who just doesn't "get it" can be a most frustrating experience. This workshop will explore creative images, toys, and tools to tap into each student's body wisdom, allowing the teacher to move quickly beyond words to the physical movements and gestures of basic piano technique
